چکیده

In this paper, we study the intervector correlations of some parameters often employed in speech coding. The speech parameters show a switched behavior, with high correlation for most vectors, but low intervector correlation for a few. We demonstrate that a quantization scheme that takes the switched behavior into account can outperform traditional methods.

Efficient vector quantization of LPC parameters at 24 bits/frame

Abstruct-Linear predictive coding (LPC) parameters are widely used in various speech processing applications for representing the spectral envelope information of speech. For low bit rate speech-coding applications, it is important to quantize these parameters accurately using as few bits as possible. Though the vector quantizers are more efficient than the scalar quantizers, their use for accu...

Wideband speech coding, speech spectral quantisation Speech Spectral Quantizers for Wideband Speech Coding

In this treatise a range of Line Spectrum Frequency (LSF) Vector Quantization (VQ) schemes were studied comparatively, which were designed for wideband speech codecs. Both predictive arrangements and memoryless schemes were investigated. Specifically, both memoryless Split Vector Quantization (SVQ) and Classified Vector Quantization (CVQ) were studied. These techniques exhibit a low complexity ...

Vector quantization of glottal pulses

An efficient codebook driven voiced excitation coding method producing natural sounding speech is proposed. It can be incorporated as an essential part in a complete speech coder working at low bit rates. The inter-pulse correlation of such a coding scheme is investigated and exploited using linear predictive vector quantization and finite state vector quantization (FSVQ). A new and more robust...

A New Trellis Vector Residual Quantizer with Applications to Speech and Image Coding

Quantization is the process of approximating a continuous-amplitude signal by a digital (discrete-amplitude) signal, while minimizing a given distortion measure (or error). Vector Quantizers (or VQ) h ave the property of achieving asintotically the best theoretical performance. Unfortunately, conventional optimal VQ are extremely demanding in terms of both storage and memory requirements, and i...

Intra-frame and Inter-frame Coding of Speech LSF Parameters Using A Trellis Structure

Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) parameters are widely used in various speech processing applications for representation of the spectral envelope of speech. Low bit-rate speech coding applications, require accurate quantization of these parameters using as few bits as possible. Line Spectral Frequency (LSF) representation is the most widely accepted representation of LPC parameters for quantizati...
